Course Overview

Architecture embodies the most profound social value of culture and is expressed in the form of material and aesthetics. This course will teach you how to under-stand architecture as cultural expression and technical achievement. Vivid analysis of demonstration buildings and hands-on drawing exercises take you from intention to graphic language.

Architecture is the expression of the architects inner will, and the visual graphic language of architecture is to express your inner understanding of architecture. You will learn about the expressive power of building visualization and how it generates collective meaning and memory.

We will study how architecture participates, mediates and expresses the complex system of atmosphere.

This course introduces the concept of building visualization. This paper probes into the stylistic differences between perspective realistic and non-realistic renderings and the use of scenes, emphasizing the purpose and narrativeness of the expression, which ultimately shows that the expression can be persuasive rather than simply dazzling.

This section outlines the ideas for making various types of drawings, breaks down complex drawings into basic skills, and helps you master the correct drawing work flow. This course mainly introduces a simple workflow commonly used. It introduces some practical rendering techniques and some tips and tricks in practical drawing.

“An architect must be a great sculptor and painter. If he is not a sculptor and painter, he can only be a builder.” ———— Ieoh Ming Pei

The course will share the application experience and q&a session, and specifically describe the basic ideas of building a portfolio, including how to choose the scheme, how to organize the story line, how to select the drawing style, and how to get the bonus items in the portfolio in the eyes of the reviewers.Excellent drawings will be invited to the European design exhibition

Course Details

PART 1  Artistic conception structure

The selection and research of artistic conception is the most important part of visualization, and different buildings express different visual atmosphere. There fore, we need to understand the characteristics of different buildings and the scene atmosphere that needs to be expressed  residential and memorial buildings need completely different atmosphere. We need to know how to express our architecture.

LESSON 1

A.Artistic conception construction system
B.Selection of artistic conception
C.Transformation ideas

PART 2  Expression of light

Light and shadow is the eternal theme of architectural design. It not only makes things visible, but also sublimates architecture and space into works of art. This section begins with a new understanding of the renderer VRAY, from basic parameters adjustment to the final rendering of realistic drawings, focusing on the artistic expression of lighting.

LESSON 2

A.Light in Architectural Visualization
B.VRAY Basic Interface Explanation
C.VRAY Light source skills
D.Small case rendering exercise

PART 3  Material giving

The”texture”of material, a general understanding, is a combination of physical attributes displayed by an object itself and human perceptual experience of the object. If architecture has physical attributes that can trigger some perceptual experience, then it has a sense of texture. This is also why we need to understand the parameters of various materials. We created this kind of texture in V-ray, which transfers the perceptual experience of materials to the architectural entity.

LESSON 3

A.Introduction to Material Basis
B.Fresnel reflex
C.Special material
D.Small case rendering exercise

LESSON 4

A.Realistic Graphic Language Workflow
B.Case explanation

PART 4  Atmosphere expression

Atmosphere building is an important means of expressing the aesthetic feeling of architectural space and environment. It makes the building have unique emotional attributes and makes the mask aesthetic and vivid. Reasonable atmosphere can make architecture and people’s hearts have emotional resonance.

LESSON 5

A.Graphic atmosphere structure system
B. Photoshop Basic Function Explanation
C. Skills of Combining Rendering Pictures with Scene Photos

Realistic Graphic Language Rendering

PART 5  Composition and Details

Louis Kang said: “Design comes from the emphasis on the basic elements. An artwork shows the whole form. Architectural details are the elements of the overall form of the building. The composition of these elements directly determines the visual effect of the building. That is to say, the inspiration of detailed design is connected with the whole”. If your light and material are reasonable but you can never get a beautiful picture, please pay attention to this lesson. You will find that details determine success or failure, but ou have missed many details.

LESSON 6

A.Photography in Graphic Language
B.Non-realistic Graphic Language Workflow
C.Case explanation

PART 6  Remodeling Collage

Collage City, published in 1987 by Colin Rowe, a renowned architectural critic, illustrates in some way the possibilities of collage in our daily life-the city we live in is a product of collage and stacking of many elements. He believes that the city is a product of historical force Everyone’s understanding or influence on the city is fragmentary and partial, and the whole city is formed in the way of partial patchwork. Therefore, through the urban design and planning method of “collage city”, the cut history can be reconnected.

LESSON 7

A.Collage Art System
B.Collage Story
C.How to Realize Collage
D.Collage Realization Skills

LESSON 8

A.Case explanation
B.Summary of Realistic Graphic Language System
C.Summary of Non-realistic Graphic Language System

PART 7   Q&A

What kind of portfolio is more likely to be favored by the auditor during the application process? How to typeset to make your portfolio look high-end and atmospheric? How to arrange planning time in the process of making a portfolio? ……Additional surprise PART, the teacher will answer all the students’ questions in detail, share their own successful experiences, and choose excellent drawings to participate in the European tour exhibition.
